Rezidence Lundborg - luxury accommodation in the heart od Prague
The first medieval stone bridge built in Czech lands was the Judith Bridge in Prague. It was built between 1158-1172. The beginning of its construction is closely linked to a visit of Vladislav II, the Czech duke and his court in Rezne where he was crown a Czech King by Friedrich Barbarossa. The visit of Rezno the rich Bavarian town where was in those days a unique bridge might have been an inspiration for the construction of a similar bridge in Prague.
The new bridge was named after the king's wife - Judith Durynske who was of a German origin. It is not known who were the constructors of the bridge but it is assumed that they were members of a North Italian building movement which crossed Vltava by the bridge and connected Mala Strana with the Old Town. The assumption is based on the similarity with the bridge in Rezne as well as the time context.
The bridge had an outline of the Charles Bridge placed only a few meters North. Floods destroyed it in 1342. The only remains of the Judith's bridge are pillars on the bottom of the river, arches in brickwork of neighbouring houses and both towers.
